Breaking News: Elmo’s Social Media Account Hacked
The apparent unauthorized activity on the official Elmo account, which disseminated racially offensive and antisemitic content, is unequivocally not attributable to the authentic Sesame Street character. The breach of Elmo’s account is currently under investigation by the Sesame Workshop, with efforts being made to regain full control of the platform.
On Sunday, a series of offensive posts were published from Elmo’s account, which have since been removed. The manner in which the account was compromised remains unclear at this time.
Additionally, the account advocated for the disclosure of documents pertaining to the Jeffrey Epstein investigation by the Trump administration, a matter that President Trump has sought to minimize. At the present moment, the hacked account continues to link to a Telegram channel, which in prior communications appeared to reference a cryptocurrency scheme.
This incident marks another instance of high-profile account compromises since Elon Musk’s acquisition of the site, previously known as Twitter, in 2022. Previous victims include the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, OpenAI, and Donald Trump Jr.
Last week, Musk’s AI company xAI issued an apology following the Grok chatbot’s dissemination of antisemitic memes and explicit support for Adolf Hitler. Musk himself was involved in a controversial incident at the inauguration of President Trump, performing a gesture that has been historically associated with Nazi ideology.
