Joby Aviation Doubles Production at Air Taxi Manufacturing Hub: Boost in Efforts for Electric Aircraft Production

Joby Aviation, a leading electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) manufacturer, is significantly expanding its domestic manufacturing capabilities in preparation for the rollout of air taxi services by 2026.

In a press release issued yesterday, the company announced the launch of production at its reconfigured components facility in Dayton, Ohio, and plans to double capacity at its manufacturing hub in Marina, California. Eric Allison, Joby’s product chief, stated, “The transformation of urban mobility demands speed, scale, and precision manufacturing. Our enhanced manufacturing presence in both California and Ohio positions us to deliver just that.”

Following the announcement, shares experienced a 7% increase, building upon a 16% year-to-date growth.

Joby Aviation, along with competitors such as Archer Aviation and Eve Air Mobility, are working towards global deployment of eVTOLs to alleviate traffic congestion in densely populated urban areas. However, they are contingent upon regulatory approval. Currently, Joby Aviation is engaged in securing Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval for its vehicles.

Last month, there was a surge in Joby Aviation shares following the news that it delivered its first eVTOL to the United Arab Emirates, with plans for service implementation in the region by next year. The company signed an exclusive six-year agreement for air taxi services in Dubai last February.

Joby Aviation asserted that the new facilities will create hundreds of full-time positions and underscore its dedication to fostering American innovation. At full capacity, the 435,500-square-foot California factory is capable of producing up to 24 aircraft annually.

The company also revealed that the opening coincided with the flight of its sixth aircraft. Toyota engineers will collaborate in ramping up aircraft production to 500 units per year at the Ohio facility, following a $500 million agreement between the companies last year.

Shares of Joby Aviation and its competitors have witnessed substantial value appreciation this year as interest in the technology continues to gain momentum. In June, President Donald Trump signed an executive order encompassing the creation of an air taxi testing program.
