Exclusive: TikTok Unveils New Promotional Features Attracting Songwriters for Boosted Visibility and Engagement

In an endeavor to empower songwriters and elevate the recognition of their creative works, TikTok is introducing novel features within its platform. These features, currently in beta testing, include a “Songwriter” designation and a dedicated section for showcasing musical compositions.

Initially, these features will be accessible to a select group of publishing partners and songwriters who have been granted early access. Those interested in participating in the program are invited to join a waiting list.

In making this decision, TikTok conducted extensive research, surveying over 870 songwriters and conducting interviews to comprehend their requirements for profile development and monetization opportunities. Additionally, an independent survey indicated that more than half of songwriters utilizing social media for promotion favor TikTok. This data served as the catalyst for the development of these features.

According to TikTok’s Global Head of Music Publishing Licensing and Partnership, “TikTok offers a unique platform for songwriters to showcase their musical works alongside their personal content, allowing them to narrate stories about their music, their craft, and their lives, thereby enhancing their visibility and audience on TikTok, much like hundreds of thousands of artist creators currently do.”

By embracing this strategy, TikTok joins the ranks of streaming services such as Spotify, which has long enabled songwriters to feature their work. Last year, Tidal launched a tool for musicians to track royalties and manage their works with songwriting credits.

Though TikTok discontinued its music streaming service, TikTok Music, last year, the platform continues to serve as a significant avenue for music discovery and artist promotion. Earlier this year, the company introduced TikTok for Artists, a tool that enables artists to monitor their campaign and track performance.
