Windows 11 Unveils New Feature: Live Desktop Sharing with Copilot for Enhanced Collaboration

Microsoft is set to introduce an expansion to its Copilot Vision tool, allowing users to share their entire desktop with the AI for real-time feedback. Previously, the tool was limited to scrutinizing a maximum of two applications simultaneously; however, this update enables it to analyze all open applications concurrently.

This feature allows for the sharing of an entire desktop or a specific application, currently available only in beta testing. The functionality mirrors hosting a video call where one can share their screen for live feedback, but instead, the interaction is with Copilot AI rather than human participants.

To activate this function, users can click on the glasses icon after hovering over the Copilot tool within the taskbar. This action enables selection of the desired desktop to be shared or restricts access to a single application. The session can be terminated at any point by clicking ‘Stop’ in the same menu.

According to Microsoft’s announcement, “The tool can aid in content analysis, provide insights, and answer your questions verbally. It offers tips on enhancing creative projects, improving resumes, or navigating new games.”

At present, this update is exclusively available to participants of the Windows Insider program across all channels. Users must also be situated within a market where Windows Vision is enabled, which currently includes the United States. The update is scheduled as part of version 1.25071.125.

It is anticipated that Microsoft will undergo a brief testing period before making this feature accessible to a broader audience. However, the duration for which it will remain limited to Windows Insiders has yet to be disclosed.

Prior Copilot features encompassed Recall, which captures regular screenshots of the displayed content for AI-driven feedback. Copilot Vision’s initial focus was on Microsoft Edge before expanding to other tools.
