Mistral AI Unveils Le Chat with Advanced Voice Recognition and Deep Research Capabilities

Mistral AI has announced an update to its chatbot, Le Chat, incorporating advanced features designed to elevate the assistant’s capabilities and enhance user experience. The primary focus of these updates is to facilitate a deeper exploration of thoughts and maintain the fluidity of conversation, as stated by Mistral AI: “chatbots should enable users to delve deeper into their ideas, sustain the course of dialogue, and preserve contextual consistency.”

A notable addition, although catching up with competitors in this field, is the introduction of the ‘Deep Research’ mode. This feature transforms Le Chat into a personal research assistant, capable of breaking down complex questions, sourcing credible information, and compiling structured reports complete with references, thereby simplifying comprehension. The tool is designed to mimic working alongside an organized partner, providing assistance on various topics ranging from market trends to scientific subjects.

For users who prefer oral communication over typing, the new ‘Vocal’ mode is intended for their convenience. Powered by Mistral AI’s innovative voice model named Voxtral, this mode supports natural and low-latency conversations, eliminating the need for awkward pauses when interacting with Le Chat. The company recommends using Vocal mode for activities such as brainstorming ideas during a walk, obtaining quick answers when hands are occupied, or transcribing meetings.

To cater to users posing complex questions, ‘Think’ mode leverages Mistral AI’s reasoning model, Magistral, to provide well-considered responses. One of Think mode’s most remarkable capabilities is its native multilingual ability, allowing users to draft proposals in Spanish, explore legal concepts in Japanese, or simply think through an idea in their preferred language. Le Chat can even switch between languages mid-sentence.

To aid in organization, the new ‘Projects’ feature enables grouping of related chats into focused folders. Each project retains your settings and consolidates all conversations, uploaded files, and ideas within a single organized space. This feature could prove ideal for managing various tasks, such as planning a house move or overseeing a long-term work project.

In a collaboration between Mistral AI and Black Forest Labs, Le Chat now includes advanced image editing capabilities. Users can create images and then fine-tune them using simple commands like “remove the object” or “place me in another city.” Unlike typical text-to-image tools, this model modifies the scene while preserving characters and details, making it suitable for consistent edits across multiple images.

These new features are now available in Le Chat on the web or through downloading the mobile app.
