ElevenLabs Debuts Commercial-Ready AI Music Generator: A Revolution in Digital Composition!

ElevenLabs, the renowned innovator in AI audio technology, unveiled a groundbreaking development on Tuesday: the launch of a new model capable of generating music, which the company asserts is suitable for commercial exploitation. This expansion represents a significant departure from ElevenLabs’ primary focus over its three-year history, which has centered around developing advanced AI audio tools.
ElevenLabs stands out among companies specializing in text-to-speech AI solutions and has extended its reach to conversational bots and translation tools for speech across various languages. With this latest announcement, ElevenLabs showcases a selection of AI-generated music compositions as part of the launch event.
One such composition features a synthetic voice delivering a rap narrative about rising from humble beginnings with ambition in hand, departing from one’s hometown, and journeying from Compton to the Cosmos. The lyricism echoes the experiences and vernacular of influential artists such as Dr. Dre, N.W.A., and Kendrick Lamar, raising concerns about the source material used in training AI music generation tools.
The ethical complexities surrounding the selection of content for AI-driven music generation have made it a challenging endeavor for startups to venture into this domain. Last year, companies like Suno and Udio faced legal action from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the representative body of the US music industry, over allegations that their music-generation models were trained on copyrighted material. The firms are currently in discussions with major record labels regarding potential licensing agreements.
In tandem with its latest announcement, ElevenLabs has secured partnerships with Merlin Network and Kobalt Music Group—digital publishing platforms for independent musicians. Merlin represents prominent artists such as Adele, Nirvana, Mitski, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Phoebe Bridgers; Kobalt boasts a roster including Beck, Bon Iver, and Childish Gambino. The specifics of these agreements remain undisclosed, along with whether the artists’ music has been incorporated into training data.
