Spotify Introduces Audiobooks+ Plan for Family and Duo Subscribers in US, Allowing Access to 15 Hours of Audiobooks per Month for Additional $11.99
Spotify’s latest update in the US introduces an Audiobooks+ plan, making it possible for Family and Duo Plan subscribers to access audiobook titles. This new offering adds 15 hours of audiobook listening per month for an additional $11.99 per member.
To access the audiobook feature, family and duo plan members only need to request audiobook access from their plan manager who can purchase the add-on on their behalf. This new option may prove more cost-effective than Audible’s $14.95 monthly subscription, but it will depend on the length of the books being listened to.
Spotify has also introduced an upgrade for Premium users, offering an extra 15 hours of listening for the same $11.99 per month. Users can now purchase short-term top-ups to finish books when they run out of hours, without waiting for their subscription to renew.
Unlike many other audiobook providers, Spotify’s system allows users to listen to multiple titles using hours instead of purchasing individual titles. This model can sometimes present a challenge as users may find themselves running out of listening time before finishing a title.
In addition to the US, Spotify has raised its prices this week in Europe, with monthly charges increasing from €10.99 to €11.99. The streaming service made similar price adjustments in the US last year when it increased its fees from $10.99 per month to $11.99.
