Google’s Made By Google Event on Aug. 20 Teases Arrival of Pixel 10 Series, AI Features, and Potential MagSafe-Like Attachment – Expect Spec Bumps, Pixel Watch 4, Buds Refresh, Smart Home Updates, and Mixed Reality Headsets

On August 20th, Google will host its annual “Made By Google” event in New York City, where the latest additions to their Pixel product line are anticipated. In preparation for the event, Google has released promotional videos hinting at the arrival of the next generation of Pixel phones under the tagline “Ask more of your phone.”

The event will commence at 1 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, August 20th, at Google’s New York office. The company has extended invitations stating, “You are invited to a Made by Google show where we will introduce the latest additions to our Pixel portfolio of devices.”

For those unable to attend, the event will be streamed on Google’s official YouTube channel. Interested individuals can also sign up on Google’s online store for email updates regarding the event.

Google has been releasing intermittent teasers to generate excitement ahead of the August 20th event. In these promotional videos, a gray Pixel device resembling the Pixel 9 Pro in design is shown, with three rear cameras and a sensor below the flash positioned similarly to the Pixel 9 Pro’s thermometer. The device’s frame appears to be polished metal, similar to that of the Pixel 9 Pro model.

The videos also include subtle criticisms of rival tech companies while encouraging viewers to change their phones. Google’s AI implementation via Google Gemini is expected to be a focal point at the event, with the company likely showcasing exclusive AI features for the Pixel devices.

Sources suggest that Google will launch four phones: a Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold, following a similar pattern to their Pixel 9 series. Some reports indicate that Google may have inadvertently leaked its lineup via the Play Store.

There are also rumors of potential updates for the Pixel 10 line, including the addition of magnets, inspired by Apple’s MagSafe technology and possibly called “Pixelsnap.” This could enable magnetic attachments to the Pixel phones.

Spec bumps across all devices are expected, featuring the next-generation Tensor G5 processor, revised camera modules, upgraded memory and storage, and enhanced Gemini AI capabilities.

There is also speculation regarding Google’s Pixel Watch 4, which could feature a charging mechanism different from its predecessors. The Pixel Watch 3 uses a disc-shaped charger that magnetically attaches to the back of the watch, while the Pixel Watch 4 may move its charging contacts to the left side of the watch, opposite the crown. This change would allow the Watch 4 to charge in a semi-standing position, potentially offering a bedside mode.

Google’s budget A-series earbuds could also receive an update at the event, with reports suggesting new colors, including Iris (lavender), similar to the Pixel 9a. Further details about the potential new earphones are scarce. However, it is expected that Google will incorporate Gemini AI into their functionality.

Google’s smart home devices are due for an update as well. The Nest Audio speakers have not been upgraded since 2020, and the Nest Hub (2nd Generation) arrived in 2021. Google Assistant has also faced criticism for broken features, with many users reporting issues. Google’s Chief Product Officer for Home and Nest recently apologized for these problems and promised improvements this fall. The event may offer a glimpse into Google’s new vision of the smart home of the future.

There is also a possibility that mixed reality headsets will make an appearance at the event, as both Google and Samsung have previously teased such products. Stay tuned for updates on the latest devices from Google, including the Pixel 9a.
