Pebble Time 2 Unveiled: Eric Migicovsky Announces Stainless Steel Smartwatch with Heart Rate Monitor, Compass Sensor, and More

In a significant development, Eric Migicovsky, the pioneering mind behind the Pebble smartwatch, unveiled new designs for the upcoming watch model on Wednesday. The device, initially codenamed Core 2 Duo and Core Time 2 upon its March announcement, will now be known as the Pebble 2 Duo and Pebble Time 2 following a successful trademark reacquisition.

In his blog post, Migicovsky reveals that the industrial design of the watch has evolved, with several new features added to the mix. The Pebble Time 2 will be available in four as-yet unspecified colors, and buyers will have an opportunity to weigh in on their preferred hues later.

Other additions include a multicolor RGB LED backlight, a second microphone for potential noise cancellation, a compass sensor, and a screw-mounted back cover. The watch boasts a stainless steel front and back, along with stainless steel buttons similar to those on the Pebble Time Steel.

The previously announced specifications remain unchanged, such as the 1.5-inch 64 color e-paper display, touch screen, quick-release 22mm watch strap, flat hardened glass lens, estimated 30-day battery life, heart rate monitor, step and sleep tracking, speaker, linear actuator motor for vibration, and an as-yet undetermined waterproof rating.

Priced at $225, the Pebble Time 2 is now available for pre-order and pairs with a smartphone via Bluetooth to display notifications, control music, and connect to the internet. Pre-orders for the Core 2 Duo can be upgraded to the Pebble Time 2, provided customers do not cancel their original orders. An email survey link will be sent out in the coming month offering this opportunity.
