Intel Expands Integrated GPU Memory with Shared Override Feature

Intel Expands Integrated GPU Memory with Shared Override Feature

Intel has unveiled a new driver feature, Shared GPU Memory Override, designed exclusively for select Core Ultra systems equipped with integrated Arc GPUs. This innovative feature allows for a substantial expansion of the system’s RAM dedicated to video memory.

The control is accessible within the Intel Graphics Software, appearing as a slider that adjusts the percentage of system memory accessible to the iGPU. Preliminary release notes and driver listings suggest default values around 57%, but vendor examples indicate that high-memory laptops could potentially benefit from significantly higher allocations, reaching up to 87% in Intel’s demonstration.

Intel presents this capability as a means to bridge the gap between integrated and discrete solutions for memory-intensive graphics tasks. The feature also offers developers and power users an enhanced level of flexibility for non-gaming applications such as running local AI models on their systems.
