Windows 11 Dark Mode Improvements: Unchanged Dialog Menus Now Support Dark Theme
Dark mode is a contentious issue among tech enthusiasts, with some operating systems favoring light mode over its darker counterpart. This is evident in Windows 11 and the previous version, Windows 10, as certain elements within both systems fail to transition to the darker design.
However, a recent development in the latest Windows Insider build offers hope for those who prefer the dark mode. As reported by XDA, this update brings improvements that allow previously unchanged dialog menus to now support dark mode. This includes options such as deleting multiple files simultaneously and the menu that appears when copying multiple files.
Previously, these options remained in light mode even when the software was displayed in dark mode. In some cases, this made certain buttons stand out more on darker backgrounds, creating a highlighter effect. This issue has persisted since the introduction of dark mode to Windows 10 in 2016.
The changes were discovered in the Windows 11 preview build version 26100.5061. While it’s unlikely that these changes will immediately appear on users’ computers, they should eventually be rolled out to the main software at a later date.
It’s worth noting that this update does not address every issue with dark mode in Windows 11. For instance, the Continue and Skip buttons remain unchanged in the latest build. However, if Microsoft is making similar changes for other elements, it may mean these adjustments will be implemented at a later date.
The reason behind Microsoft’s delay in addressing these issues is unclear, particularly given that macOS has had more consistent support for dark mode for some time. As Windows 10 approaches the end of its lifespan and more users switch to Windows 11, it’s possible that Microsoft aims to address ongoing minor issues to enhance the overall user experience.
