Gen AI Demands Overhaul of Workplace Infrastructure for Optimal Productivity

Investments in artificial intelligence (AI) technology have reached unprecedented heights as businesses strive to gain a competitive edge through automation and increased productivity. Yet, a burgeoning collection of studies indicates that current workplace structures might struggle to meet the requirements of AI-driven operations.
This dissonance between corporate AI aspirations and the practicalities of the workplace has become increasingly evident as general AI tools have transitioned from experimental technologies to essential business applications.
Lenovo’s latest research underscores this so-called “AI readiness gap,” revealing that existing digital workplace systems are hindering organizations from fully leveraging AI’s productivity advantages.
In a global survey of 600 IT leaders, Lenovo discovered that while 79% believe AI will enable employees to focus on more significant tasks, less than half view their current digital workplace solutions as satisfactory.
The first report in Lenovo’s Work Reborn Research Series 2025 sheds light on how general AI presents both opportunities and challenges for workplace evolution.
Only 36% of the IT leaders surveyed feel that their systems foster employee engagement effectively, and 89% assert that organizations must overhaul their digital infrastructure to fully capitalize on AI’s potential.
