Revamped Tinder Introduces New Modes for Easier, Low-Pressure Connections: Global Rollout of Double Date and College Mode

To enhance user experience and boost engagement, Tinder is revamping some of its current features into novel “modes,” while also updating its home screen design.

The platform is introducing two new modes, Double Date and College Mode, both extensions of existing features, as well as a “For You” mode on the home screen that offers the traditional Tinder experience. The company plans to add additional dating modes that cater to various interests, dating goals, and connection methods.

Tinder launched the Double Date mode in June, which enables users to partner with a friend and match with other pairs. Originally limited to select regions, it is now being rolled out globally. Since July, Tinder has observed an increase in user engagement and a 25% rise in messages per match compared to individual chats.

Meanwhile, College Mode expands upon the existing Tinder U feature, introduced in 2018 for adult students to register using their college or university email addresses and find matches within their campus or nearby locations. Last year, the platform updated the feature to allow students to include details such as graduation year, major, clubs, and Greek life in their profiles. College Mode now enables students to match with others anywhere.

Cleo Long, senior director of global product marketing at Tinder, stated, “Gen Z is seeking simpler, less pressured ways to connect, as their interests and connection preferences can vary from day to day. We have listened to our users and they are asking for better matches, not just more of them.”

Match Group, Tinder’s parent company, discussed these dating modes during its Q2 2025 earnings call last month. The company revealed today that it will continue to add new dating modes. The redesign and Double Date feature are currently being rolled out globally, while College Mode will be available to compatible users later in autumn.
