Meta Rolls Out Early Access for Hyperscape, Allowing Users to Create Photorealistic Virtual Replicas of Real-World Spaces

Meta unveiled several metaverse updates during its developer conference, including the launch of Hyperscape in Early Access for Quest device owners. This tool allows users to scan real-world spaces and convert them into immersive, photorealistic digital environments within a matter of minutes. However, it’s worth noting that the rendering process could take several hours.

Initially, users will not be able to invite others into their created digital spaces, but Meta plans to introduce this feature in the future via a private link. To demonstrate its capabilities, Hyperscape has already been utilized to render digital replicas of notable spaces such as Gordon Ramsay’s L.A. kitchen, Chance the Rapper’s House of Kicks, The Octagon at UFC Apex in Las Vegas, and Happy Kelli’s room filled with her Crocs shoe collection.

The company initially showcased Hyperscape last year, demonstrating its use of Gaussian Splatting, cloud rendering, and streaming to create digital worlds viewable on Meta Quest headsets. Now, this technology is being made available to users aged 18 and above who own a Quest 3 or Quest 3S, with the rollout starting today.

The company also announced additional metaverse updates, including a lineup of fall VR games like Marvel’s Deadpool VR, ILM’s Star Wars: Beyond Victory, Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked, and Reach. Meta’s streaming app, Horizon TV, will also support Disney+, ESPN, and Hulu, while a partnership with Universal Pictures and horror company Blumhouse will offer immersive special effects for movies like “M3GAN” and “The Black Phone.” A limited-time 3D clip of “Avatar: Fire and Ash” is also available.
