Google Launches Affordable AI Plus Plan Across 40 Countries, Targeting Users in Developing Regions

In an expansion move, Google’s affordable AI Plus offering is now accessible across over 40 nations, including Angola, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico, Nepal, Nigeria, Philippines, Senegal, Uganda, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe.
First introduced in Indonesia earlier this month for Rp 75,000 (approximately $4.50) per month, the plan typically retails around $5 globally. Google plans to offer a 50% discount for six months in select countries such as Nepal and Mexico.
The premium tier grants users access to Gemini 2.5 Pro, along with creative tools for images and videos like Flow, Whisk, and Veo 3 Fast. Furthermore, it provides additional features on the company’s AI research assistant NotebookLM, integrates AI functionalities in Gmail, Docs, and Sheets, and offers 200GB of cloud storage.
Yesterday saw OpenAI extend its sub-$5 ChatGPT Go plan to Indonesia, a day after the announcement. However, it’s noteworthy that India, where OpenAI initially launched ChatGPT Go, is absent from Google’s list.
Both companies offer a $20 monthly standard plan, but with these newly introduced lower-tier subscriptions, they aim to attract more paying customers in regions where a $20 subscription might be financially challenging.
