Google Launches New Defense Against Rapidly Spreading Ransomware Attacks on Google Drive

In the digital landscape, ransomware attacks have long been recognized as an urgent threat, lacking a straightforward solution. This is exacerbated by the evolution of these attacks, encompassing data grab-and-leak tactics that don’t necessarily rely on data-encrypting malware. Despite this shift, traditional ransomware, which locks up files and systems, remains prevalent.

In a move to combat this persistent threat, Google announced the launch of a novel defense mechanism on Tuesday for its Google Drive desktop apps. This new system is designed to swiftly detect signs of ransomware activity and promptly halt cloud syncing, thereby preventing the infection from spreading further.
