Benchmark Set to Invest $180M in Series A Funding Round for AI-Powered Code Reviewer Greptile: Report

In the realms of artificial intelligence-driven code review solutions, Greptile – a burgeoning startup – is currently engaging in discussions for a Series A investment round, with sources suggesting a $30 million infusion at a valuation of $180 million, spearheaded by Benchmark partner Eric Vishria. However, it should be noted that the deal remains tentative and subject to potential alterations.

Founded by Dasksh Gupta post his graduation from Georgia Tech in 2023, Greptile participated in Y Combinator’s winter cohort of 2024 and subsequently secured a $4 million seed round led by Initialized Capital following completion of the program.

Last year, Gupta disclosed  that the company’s bot operates as an experienced peer within the development team, boasting a comprehensive understanding of the client’s codebase, enabling it to identify bugs and other overlooked issues that human reviewers might miss.

The competitive landscape in AI-driven code review is notably intense, with Greptile’s primary contenders including Graphite, which secured a $52 million Series B funding round earlier this year led by Accel, accompanied by Anthropic’s Anthology Fund, Menlo Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz, and others. Another significant competitor is Coderabbit, which raised a $16 million Series A from CRV last year.

In an effort to outshine its competitors, Greptile’s employees are reportedly expected to maintain extraordinarily long work hours. In a post on X in November 20XX, the then 22-year-old Gupta confirmed that Greptile does not prioritize work-life balance, with staff working from 9 am to 11 pm, including Saturdays, and occasionally Sundays.

Following the viral dissemination of this post, Gupta clarified to various media outlets that exceeding competition necessitates unwavering dedication from every team member. “No one cares about the third-best company, or even the second-best company in any software category if you’re only putting in 95 percent effort – it’s equivalent to putting in 0 percent effort,” Gupta stated in an interview with Inc.
