Orange Telecom Issues Cyberattack Alert: Potential Disruptions Ahead for Customers

In an official communique released on Monday, Orange S.A., the esteemed French telecommunications conglomerate and a global leader in mobile communications services, disclosed that it had suffered an unspecified cyber intrusion on one of its information systems on July 25th. In response, the company took swift action to isolate potentially affected services, aiming to mitigate any potential repercussions.
The process of isolating the compromised systems, however, led to disruptions across various platforms and business customers, as well as some public sector services primarily in France. Orange anticipates that the corrective measures implemented will progressively restore services by Wednesday. The announcement further assured that there is currently no evidence indicating the exfiltration of any internal or customer data.
Orange declined to comment on specific queries, pertaining to the nature of the cyberattack and whether the company possesses the technical capability to detect potential data exfiltration.
The announcement revealed that Orange is proactively communicating with and informing affected customers, and has filed a complaint with the appropriate authorities without disclosing specific details. Under the purview of GDPR, European companies are obligated to notify their local data protection authorities within three days of a suspected data breach.
Orange serves approximately 291 million clients worldwide across 26 countries and employs a workforce of over 127,000 individuals according to the company’s own data.
