Microsoft Extends Support for Windows 10 and Edge Browser Through October 2028: Here’s How to Access Extended Security Updates

Microsoft’s support for Windows 10 will conclude in October, but users can opt for extended usage up to three additional years. Microsoft has also confirmed the end of support for its Edge browser, with updates continuing until October 2028.

The Redmond giant offers an Extended Security Updates (ESU) program that allows users to extend Windows 10 support by one to three years in exchange for a fee or through free access granted upon syncing Windows Backup directly to OneDrive, or using Microsoft Rewards program points.

It is important to note that the ESU program is not mandatory for continued Microsoft Edge and WebView2 Runtime updates. This means extended support can be availed even without enrolling in the ESU program.

For users delaying the upgrade to Windows 11, this extended support ensures their browser continues to receive essential security updates. As of now, it remains unclear how long rival browsers like Google Chrome or Firefox will continue supporting Windows 10. However, further details from alternative browsers are expected soon.
