Notion Introduces Offline Mode: Edit Notes Without Internet Connectivity

Notion’s long-standing limitation of limited functionality in offline mode has been addressed with the introduction of an offline mode for its applications. This development enables users to view, edit, and create notes without the need for an internet connection on both desktop and mobile platforms. The apps also allow pages to be downloaded for offline access.

In a recent announcement, the company revealed that this highly demanded feature from users was one of the driving forces behind its development.

While offline editing is now possible, it’s essential to note that certain blocks such as embeds, forms, or buttons may not function without an internet connection. When reconnected online, any changes made to documents will be synced.

Users subscribed to Notion’s Plus, Business, or Enterprise plans will benefit from automatic downloads of recently viewed and favorite pages for offline access. Users can opt-out of automatic downloads or manage downloads through a new “Offline” menu in the settings panel.

Ivan Zhao, the company’s CEO, explained in a post on X that Notion was unable to implement this feature previously due to its complex database structure for storing different blocks. The company had to develop a conflict resolution mechanism to handle situations where multiple users make changes to a document while offline.
