Elon Musk Accuses Apple and OpenAI of Collusion to Stifle Competition and AI Innovation

In a significant legal move, Elon Musk’s firms X and xAI have filed a lawsuit against tech giants Apple and OpenAI, alleging anticompetitive practices designed to suppress competition. The complaint accuses Apple of leveraging its smartphone market dominance in alliance with OpenAI, a company deemed by the lawsuit as a monopolist in the generative AI chatbot sector.

The lawsuit refers to Apple’s strategic partnership with OpenAI, aimed at integrating OpenAI’s ChatGPT technology into Apple’s systems. The suit suggests this collaboration is intended to stifle competition and innovation in the AI industry.

This latest dispute is part of an ongoing feud between Musk and Sam Altman, a former collaborator and co-chair of OpenAI. Musk has previously taken legal action to prevent OpenAI’s transition into a for-profit entity, and submitted an unsuccessful bid to acquire OpenAI for $97.4 billion.

Musk recently leveled anticompetitive accusations against OpenAI on his platform X, stating that no AI company apart from OpenAI could realistically top the App Store rankings.

The partnership between Apple and OpenAI was unveiled last June, with collaborative features expected to roll out in December. As of yet, neither OpenAI nor Apple has responded to requests for comment on the matter.
