Microsoft Warns of Potential Cloud Latency After Undersea Cables Cut in Red Sea

On Saturday, Microsoft announced potential latency increases for users of its Azure cloud platform due to multiple undersea cables being severed in the Red Sea, according to a report by Bloomberg.
In an update, the tech giant confirmed that traffic routed through the Middle East or destined for Asia or Europe had been impacted. However, no details were provided regarding the party responsible for the cable cuts or their motivation.
“Undersea fiber cuts can require considerable time to repair,” the update stated. “We are actively monitoring, rebalancing, and optimizing routing to minimize customer disruption during this period.”
By Saturday evening, Microsoft reported that no further Azure-related issues had been detected.
