Stellantis Abandons All-Electric Ram 1500, Pivots to Extended-Range Pickup with 690-Mile Range

The electric Ram 1500 REV pickup truck, previously known as the Ramcharger, has been abandoned by Stellantis, its parent company. Instead, the automaker will focus on developing an extended-range Ram 1500 REV truck, offering impressive range, towing capacity, and payload performance.

In a statement released Friday, Stellantis acknowledged the slowing demand for full-size battery-electric trucks in North America as the primary reason for abandoning development of a full-sized battery-electric pickup. The company is now exploring an innovative approach combining a battery with a gas generator to achieve an estimated 690 miles of range.

Initially, Stellantis aimed to sell over 25 all-new BEVs by the end of the decade as part of its U.S. product offensive. However, plans for the all-electric Ram 1500 pickup have been uncertain for several months. After a high-profile reveal at CES 2023 and subsequent showcases, Stellantis expressed wavering commitment to its EV truck plans.

The initial production date of the vehicle was set for 2024, but this soon shifted to 2025. By the end of 2024, Stellantis postponed plans for the development of the powerful pickup loaded with technology, a spacious extended cabin, and two massive battery pack options. The launch was then pushed back to 2026.

A spokesperson from Stellantis confirmed that the company remains committed to beginning production of the extended-range Ram 1500 in 2026.
