YouTube Unveils Major Updates at Made on YouTube Event: Enhanced Creator Tools, Monetization Options, AI-Powered Features, and More

At the annual YouTube event this week, the platform announced numerous updates aimed at content creators, encompassing improvements to YouTube Live, monetization opportunities, and more.

Enhancements to Studio incorporate “likeness” detection and lip-synced dubs, while Google is offering new AI tools for podcast creators to promote their shows.

Here’s a rundown of the announcements from the event.

YouTube showcased new and improved tools for Studio, used by creators to manage their channels and analyze data. Updates include an inspiration tab, A/B testing features for video titles, auto dubbing, and more.

Of particular interest is the “likeness”-detection feature, initially unveiled last year and now available in open beta. This functionality allows creators to detect, manage, and flag videos containing unauthorized use of their likeness for removal.

An AI-powered Assistant can assist users with questions about their account, and creators will have the ability to collaborate with up to five other individuals on a single video, accessible to the audiences of all participating video makers.

YouTube Live, its livestreaming platform, received updates as well, such as enabling creators to engage viewers through minigames, broadcasting in both horizontal and vertical formats simultaneously, providing AI-powered highlights, reacting to live events, employing a new ad format, and more.

The AI-powered highlights automatically select the best moments from a livestream and convert them into shareable Shorts, while a new ad format—dubbed “side-by-side”— runs adjacent to the main content rather than interrupting it.

YouTube is introducing a custom version of Veo 3, Google’s text-to-video generative AI model, to Shorts, as well as a new remixing tool, an “Edit with AI” feature, and more.

With Veo 3 Fast, creators can apply motion from a video to an image, add different styles to their videos, and insert objects into the video using a simple text prompt. Creators can also transform dialogue from eligible videos into catchy soundtracks for other Shorts using Google’s AI music model, Lyria 2.

YouTube Music has also received updates, designed to foster increased engagement between creators and their fans. These include a countdown timer for new releases, the opportunity to share “thank you” videos with fans, and a pilot program for U.S. listeners that grants access to exclusive merchandise drops from artists.

U.S.-based video podcast creators will find it easier to create clips with AI suggestions, according to YouTube, and a new feature set to roll out next year will offer the ability to transform audio podcasts into video podcasts.

YouTube is presenting creators with novel monetization opportunities, such as brand deals and participation in the YouTube Shopping program, which allows creators to earn money by featuring and tagging products in their content. Creators will also be able to swap out brand sponsorships in long-form videos.

Creators can additionally leverage auto timestamps for product tags, auto tagging for eligible items mentioned in videos, and a new brand link feature for Shorts. An AI-powered system will help identify the optimal moment a product is mentioned and automatically display the product tag at that time.

Shorts creators will soon be able to add a direct link to a brand’s website for brand deals, and YouTube will proactively suggest creators who may be a suitable match for brands within its creator partnerships hub.
