eBay Acquires Tise: Modernizing Platform for Sustainable Social Commerce to Attract Younger Shoppers
E-commerce giant eBay has announced its acquisition of Norwegian social marketplace Tise, specializing in second-hand fashion and home goods. The financial details of the deal remain undisclosed.
According to a press release, the Oslo-based company’s platform will cater to a demographic of Gen Z and millennial customers, enriching eBay’s consumer-to-consumer (C2C) experience. Tise’s unique features, such as the ability to follow sellers, like and comment on listings, and receive personalized product recommendations, align with eBay’s focus on current inventory and strengthen its social commerce tools.
In 2022, Tise became the first recipient of an investment from eBay Ventures.
Oliver Klinck, VP, GM Global Markets Success & C2C at eBay, commented, “This acquisition will propel Tise’s strategy and open doors for innovation, allowing us to strengthen our C2C offerings and more deeply connect with the next generation of enthusiasts.” The acquisition aims to modernize eBay’s platform, attract younger shoppers, and fortify its presence in the sustainable retail market.
The deal is expected to close by the end of Q4 2025, subject to customary conditions.
Eirik Frøyland Rime, CEO and co-founder of Tise, stated, “At Tise, we believe that making resale fun, easy, and inspiring is vital for a more sustainable world. With eBay’s support, we will enhance our community-driven model and enable even more people to join the social marketplace.”
Founded in 2014, Tise has secured $45 million in funding, according to Tracxn’s market intelligence platform.
